SCHOOLS

Calling all teachers. We’re inviting primary and secondary schools across the UK to join us in celebrating National Lorry Week.

By getting involved in our school competitions, you can help us to inspire the next generation and get young people excited about road transport. You’ll also have the chance to win some fantastic prizes for your school.

Primary Schools

We’re asking primary school children to build a lorry using whatever materials that are available to them, such as toilet rolls, cereal boxes and plastic bottles.

The closing date for the competition is 11 November and our judging panel will pick the winner by 12 December.

If you’d like to take part, please email schools@rha.uk.net for further details.

Secondary Schools

This year we are looking to work with Geography GCSE students, linking into cartographic skills and renewable energy elements of the curriculum. We’re highlighting how wind turbines are transported from port to wind farm and the meticulous planning that must be done to map out the route.

Our members, Collett’s, has excellent drone footage of a wind turbine being transported which will help to bring this task to life.

Using maps to check weight restrictions and bridge heights, and Google Earth to visualise the roads, we’re asking students to plot a route from A to B which Collett’s have completed previously. We will provide a presentation that can be used alongside the task.

We would love to see the project planning shared with us and will of course provide the correct route once students have completed the project.

In addition to the geography project, the presentation can be used for careers advice as it covers all of the different occupations required to transport a wind turbine.

If you’d like to take part in the project, please email schools@rha.uk.net for
further details.
