As the world-leading tyre brand, Michelin is dedicated to sustainable mobility, designing and distributing the most suitable tyres, services and solutions to help optimise daily operations in the transport sector. We speak to Steve Chadwick, Brand Manager at Michelin, for National Lorry Week.

Why are you getting involved in National Lorry Week?

National Lorry Week is a great initiative to support the industry, raise awareness about some of the challenges we’re faced with, and to celebrate the hard work performed day in day out. Simply put, road transport is essential for us all, and its commitment to deliver 24/7 in times of uncertainty deserves to be recognised.

What excites you about the future of road transport?

Notably, the significant number of technological developments, including the growth in connected solutions and the impact of increasing autonomy excite me most. It’s so interesting to consider how supply chains will look in the future. It’s a great time to be involved in road transport!

Further to this, it’s an industry that embraces change, which we’re seeing now with the move into digital solutions and the upcoming transition into alternative fuels. It’s a great mix of traditional values and future ambition.

What kind of career opportunities does the industry offer?

There’s an almost infinite amount! There are a variety of crucial roles at every step of the supply chain, from movement of raw materials, right through to last mile delivery. There are also a huge number of roles with key industry suppliers and partners, meaning there really is something for everyone. Even within the Michelin Group, we have long list of industry related posts including casing inspection agents, tyre technicians and data scientists.

The pure variety of tasks, the sense of accomplishment, and the chance to make a difference all make this an exciting industry to join.
