Why do you think it’s important to celebrate road transport?

With everything that has happened over the last couple of years, public awareness of the role road transport plays in all our lives is clearer than ever, we don’t want to lose sight of that as our lives return to normal. With this, it’s important that we come together to celebrate and say thank you for everyone’s hard work.

Are there any misconceptions about road transport that you’d like to put right?

Some people still have an old-fashioned view of the industry, whether it’s the vehicles, the technology or even the people. The reality is that our industry is incredibly forward-looking. There are so many exciting innovations and new technologies, whether that’s on the trucks, in the warehouse or the way we organise and manage operations.

What kind of career opportunities exist in road transport?

As a recruiter, I’d really like to highlight that there are some brilliant career opportunities in this sector. You don’t have to be a driver, although I believe it is a great career choice.

Whether you’re in IT, project management, finance, HR, compliance, engineering, marketing or an entirely different department, the options are really broad, and it is such a rewarding sector.

We still have some way to go in terms of diversity and attracting younger people into the sector, but there has been significant progress in recent years and I am hopeful that we can attract a new generation to come and work in our industry. It’s fast-moving, dynamic, and full of opportunities for talented people.
